Jane Ursel is a Professor of Sociology at the University of Manitoba and Director of RESOLVE, a tri-provincial family violence research network. Dr. Ursel is the principal investigator of two major longitudinal studies. The first is the study of Canada’s first specialized Family Violence Court in Winnipeg which has been ongoing for 27 years. The second study, now completed, was a six-year, tri-provincial study of 665 women who had experienced interpersonal violence in their intimate relationships. Dr. Ursel has also served as an expert witness in domestic homicide cases, the Lavoie Inquiry in Manitoba and the Iles-May Inquest in Ontario. She was the Chair of the Lavoie Inquiry Implementation Team which succeeded in implementing all 23 recommendations from the Inquiry. Dr. Ursel is currently a member of the Manitoba Domestic Homicide Review Committee. She also served as a Lay Bencher with the Manitoba Law Society for seven years and was a member of the Winnipeg Family Violence Court Advisory Committee.
